Exterior render repair and full masonry coating

The brief
A detached property on an exposed elevation with blown render, staining and paint failing within two years of the last application. The previous coating had been applied over an unstabilised substrate.
Our approach
We surveyed the render by tapping the full elevation and marked every hollow section for removal rather than coating over it. Repaired areas were allowed to cure properly before a stabilising primer and a breathable masonry system were applied — the step that had been skipped previously.
Outcome
A uniform elevation with no recurrence of blistering through two winters, and a documented specification the owner can reuse at the next cycle.
Scope of works
- Full elevation survey and tap test
- Cut out and rebuild failed render
- Stabilising primer to full elevation
