Terms of business

The basis on which we quote, work and invoice — set out plainly, so nothing in it is a surprise later.

Last updated: 2026. These terms summarise how we work. The contract for any specific project is the quotation we issue and the terms attached to it; where the two differ, the quotation governs.

Quotations

Quotations are free, itemised and valid for 30 days from issue unless stated otherwise. A quotation covers only the scope described in it. Where drawings or specifications are supplied by you, our price is based on those documents being accurate.

Variations

If the scope changes — at your request, or because something genuinely unforeseen is uncovered — we will issue a written variation setting out the cause, the cost and any effect on the programme. No variation is carried out until you approve it. Variations appear as separate lines in the final account.

Programme

Programmes are issued in good faith based on the information available. Dates may be affected by matters outside our control, including weather, third-party inspections, statutory undertakers and materials availability. We will tell you promptly if a date moves and why.

Payment

Stage payments, where they apply, are set out in your quotation before you commit. Invoices are payable within the period stated on them. We do not issue a final invoice until snagging identified at handover has been closed out.

Access and site conditions

You agree to provide reasonable access to the property for the agreed working hours, and to tell us about known hazards — asbestos, buried services, structural defects — before work begins. Where such matters are discovered on site, work in that area will stop until it is safe and a variation has been agreed.

Workmanship and guarantees

Our workmanship is guaranteed for the period stated in your quotation. Manufacturer warranties on materials and installed products are passed to you at handover. Guarantees do not cover fair wear and tear, damage caused by others, lack of maintenance, or defects in materials or designs supplied by you.

Insurance

Public liability and employer's liability cover in place on every project. Certificates are available on request. Our liability is limited to the extent permitted by law and is not intended to exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Cancellation

Where you are a consumer and the contract is made away from our premises, you have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days. If you ask us to begin work within that period, we may charge for work already carried out. Rights for business clients are set out in the contract attached to the quotation.

Complaints

Tell us during the job rather than at the end — anything not to the standard set out in the quotation is put right at our cost. Complaints should be raised with your contracts manager first, and can be escalated by emailing info@marlconstruction.uk.
